Your first sound healing session is simpler than you might imagine. You arrive, settle onto a mat, breathe, and then lie down while gongs and crystal bowls fill the room with sound. There is nothing to learn and nothing to get right. This guide walks you through each moment, so you can arrive relaxed and ready to rest.
What to do before your first sound healing session
A little preparation helps your body arrive ready to let go.
• Eat lightly. A light meal an hour or two before is ideal. A full stomach makes it harder to relax lying down.
• Wear soft, loose clothing. You will sit, breathe, move gently, and lie down. Bring a light layer, as the body cools as it relaxes.
• Arrive a few minutes early. Rushing in at the last minute keeps the mind busy. A few calm minutes help you land.
• Share any health considerations. If you are pregnant or have epilepsy, a heart condition, or another health concern, speak to your doctor before attending and let us know beforehand, so we can adapt the session.
• Silence your phone. Leave it switched off or in another room, so nothing pulls you back.
Arriving at your sound bath
You will find a calm space set with mats, bolsters, blankets and eye pillows. Choose your spot, make yourself comfortable, and take a moment to notice how you feel.
Many people arrive with the day still running through their minds. That is completely normal, and it is exactly where the session begins.
Your guide will briefly explain what is about to happen, so you know what to expect at every step.
What happens during a sound healing session
Every Resonance session follows the same three steps, designed to take you from a busy mind to deep rest. For the bigger picture of the practice, read Sound Healing in Dubai: The Complete Guide.
01 Activation
The session opens with a short Kundalini practice of breath and gentle movement. Its purpose is to awaken your energy and bring your attention out of your thoughts and into your body.
Some people feel warmth, tingling, or a gentle lift in energy. Move at your own pace and rest whenever you need to.
02 Release
Then you lie down, cover yourself with a blanket, and close your eyes. The gongs and crystal bowls begin, joined by chimes and ocean drums.
There is nothing to do but listen, and your thoughts gradually soften. You hear the sound and feel it gently through your body. This is the longest part of the session.
03 Immersion
A closing Kundalini meditation takes you deeper into stillness. Slow, steady breathing helps the body settle fully, and this is where many people feel the deepest shift. When it ends, you are guided gently back, with time to rest before you get up.
Sound healing session lengths: 45, 60 or 75 minutes
Resonance offers three session lengths, each following the same three steps.
• Pause, 45 minutes: a gentle reset within a busy schedule.
• Restore, 60 minutes: the complete journey, and a lovely place to begin.
• Deepen, 75 minutes: more time to go deeper into rest and recovery.
How does sound healing feel the first time?
Every experience is personal, and the same person can feel something different each time. People often describe:
• A deeply relaxed, heavy body, as if sinking into the floor • Losing track of time, with an hour passing like minutes
• A quieter mind, as the inner to-do list fades
• Gentle vibration or tingling moving through the body • A wave of emotion, a memory, or a sense of release
•Drifting between waking and sleep, or falling asleep entirely.
All of these are natural. If your mind wanders, simply return to the sound. There is no right way to experience it.
What to do after a sound healing session
Take a few quiet minutes before you stand up, check your phone, or drive. Drink some water. Many people feel calm and clear; others are pleasantly sleepy. Notice how you feel through the rest of the day and evening; many people sleep more deeply that night.
We look at why in Sound Healing for Stress, Anxiety and Sleep: What the Research Says. If you would like to keep the calm going between sessions, a few minutes of slow breathing before bed is a simple place to start.

Thoughts many people have before their first sound bath
“I can’t switch my mind off.” You don’t need to. The sound and breath do the work, and the mind settles on its own.
“What if I fall asleep?” Many people do. You still benefit from the deep rest, and no one will mind.
“I’m not flexible or spiritual.” No flexibility, belief, or experience is needed. If you can breathe and lie down, you can take part.
“What if I feel emotional?” Sound and deep rest can bring feelings to the surface. That is a natural part of letting go, and the space is held with care.
